Pinole Creekside Park
Pinole, CA

Project Description
The Pinole creek Watershed is an unique watershed. The upper section remains relatively undeveloped and it is home of steelheads. However, as Pinole has grown, so have threats to the creek’s environmental health.
Pinole creek offers opportunities to increase social and ecological connectivity along its entire length, inviting people to celebrate the water, the riparian vegetation and the rainbow trouts. BASE offered pro-bono services to Friends of Pinole Creek Watershed to support a vision for a Creekside Park.
BASE visited the site to get familiar with the existing conditions and identify opportunities for social and ecological connectivity. We engaged with students from the Earth Team at Pinole High School, visited the creek together to listen to its voice and visualize strategies to care for it. We also engaged with the local community to learn about program preferences. After the visioning and engagements, BASE prepared a concept design and an opinion of cost. The design includes the restoration of native habitats and interventions to invite the community to engage with the creek and take care of the site.
