West Portal Elementary School
San Francisco, CA

Project Description
BASE Landscape Architecture is working with Multistudio architects and SFUSD on new play outdoor areas by creating various physical activities for the children at the elementary and TK schools. The school is founded in 1926, and it is the fourth largest school in SFUSD, and it is situated in the West Portal neighborhood.
BASE’s scope of work includes a new running track, basketball courts, and different kinds of colorful play games on the asphalt ground. The TK play area will serve the little ones in developing their new motor, social, and learning skills. Creating planting areas within the butterfly theme will help the children learn about the natural environment. These planting areas will not only beautify the school grounds, but also will form an appreciation of the children for the surrounding natural world.
