Corte Madera Library
Corte Madera, CA

Project Description
BASE designed the outdoor landscape areas to provide universal access to the library main entry. By designing an elevated walkway, we provided not only accessible paths of travel but also created new rest areas along the path. These new areas along the path consist of viewing platforms and concrete benches with wooden tops. When walking along the path one can sit, read, and contemplate in the garden.
Another goal of the project was to preserve the existing redwood trees. To accomplish that goal part of the new walkway is made of timber. We proposed to work carefully around these existing trees to create an elevated deck that sits on helical piers to protect the tree roots.
Our planting palette consisted of plants that are drought tolerant and have various textures, forms, and heights. The purple and white flowering plant colors were chosen with the intention of creating harmony in the garden and attracting pollinators.
