Project Description

Muriel Leff Mini Park is a project located in the Inner Richmond District of San Francisco. BASE had the opportunity to redesign the park after receiving community input from the local neighborhood. In collaboration with the San Francisco Parks Alliance, BASE hosted a community workshop, presenting our initial concepts on different types of improvements, from play elements to nature exploration areas, planting, to circulation and seating areas. We designed a space that offered an enhanced nature exploration area in the corner of the site and increased circulation and seating/ picnic areas around the site. The nature exploration area contains a dry creek that has been hard set for maintenance, yet allows for stormwater percolation, logs and stumps, as well as moss covered boulders.

In collaboration with the San Francisco Recreation and Parks department, the park hosted a series of community planting days to get community involvement into the project as well. Overall, the site’s redesign has increased the aesthetic and functional value of the park and has provided a sense of place for the community to enjoy.
