McCandless Park
Milpitas, CA

Project Description
BASE is working with the City of Milpitas and Milpitas Unified School District to create a new elementary school and public park on McCandless Drive. Phase I of the school has been completed and we are finalizing the construction drawings for Phase II of the school and McCandless Park.
This new public park and school are located in a high-density, transit-oriented redevelopment area. The City’s new park will include a walking trail that loops around the park, picnic areas, play structures, community gardens, and restroom facilities. The school-shared soccer field and basketball courts will provide recreational areas for students. The park amenities will provide open space active and passive recreation and community-gathering space for new residents.
The two age appropriate (2-5 and 2-12) play areas include sensory play activities, which promote exploration and discovery for children with sensory processing disorders. Landscape plantings are to be irrigated with recycled water, and will include drought-tolerant ornamental plants and shade trees.
