BASE is working with Brown and Caldwell on a very exciting project at AP Giannini school.  This project is a partnership between the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) and San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) to facilitate schoolyard greening and stormwater management in public schools throughout the City of San Francisco.

The majority of urban school sites in California, including San Francisco, have a high percentage of land covered by asphalt, concrete, and other impermeable surfaces, which creates significant stormwater runoff and other serious problems for the local environment. The goal of the AP Giannini Stormwater Schoolyard Project is to create a safe, usable, and fun schoolyard while increasing greenspace and capturing stormwater runoff.  

BASE has facilitated a series of community engagement meetings to hear the needs from the school community. We are helping to redesign the school yard through the lens of stormwater opportunities that green and beautify the space while still maintaining the necessary open space for athletic activities and other needs. We are excited to complete this concept phase and move on to the next phase of design development to make this project a reality.
