Resilient By Design: Research Phase
Global climate disruption and sea level rise: Actionable solutions in the SF Bay Area
Resilient By Design looks at one of the big challenges of our time -- global climate disruption and rising sea levels -- applied on a regional scale: the San Francisco Bay.
BASE led the research phase of this project for the Permaculture and Social Equity Team over an intense and dynamic six months of inquiry. Focusing on the collateral threats of sea level rise, impaired sanitation, and reduced access to clean water, BASE introduced models for distributed wastewater treatment, potable water collection, and community-based support networks. Unlike many approaches to climate change that rely on the construction of mega-infrastructure projects, our strategy set forth to distribute and amplify actionable, low-cost solutions.
